Power Press Setting / Safety

The aim of the course is To provide operators with the skill and knowledge to enable them to set the power press to ensure accuracy of the set up and to meet the safety requirements of the Provision of Work Equipment Regulations and the Approved Code of Practice as applied to Power Presses.

On completion of the course the nominated operators will be able to:
 
  • Explain their legal responsibilities in accordance with the Approved Code of Practice (ACOP)
  • Undertake daily maintenance within the scope of appointed persons
  • Ensure that other legal requirements are being adhered to i.e. handling heavy loads, noise, PPE and that appropriate risk assessments are in place.
  • Explain safety aspects and functions of power press mechanisms i.e. clutch, flywheels, brakes, ancillary equipment
  • Guards and protection devices
  • Causes and prevention of accidents involved with power presses
  • The work of the tool setter – safe methods of working – lubrication
  • Undertake statutory daily checks of the guarding system and complete relevant documentation
  • Tool design – in relation to safe systems of work
  •  
    The above objectives will be measured by both a theoretical and practical assessment.
