Safety Rules for Radio Controlled Overhead Travelling Cranes

The aim of the course is to provide the course members with the theoretical and practical requirements of operation of radio controlled cranes to ensure there safe use in normal work activities.

On completion of the course members will be able to:
 
  • Develop an understanding of the legal requirements of both the employer and employee relating to radio controlled cranes
  • Identify hazards associated with crane operation and undertake appropriate risk assessment
  • Judge distances to stationary object
  • Operate the radio control box (transmitter)
  • Ensure signal devices (bell, siren, horn etc.) are operable and used
  • Attach appropriate lifting tackle and operate the crane in a safe and responsible manner
  • Work with others i.e. banks - man and ensure good communication systems
  • Identify and report any unusual or unsafe operating conditions as required by LOLLER 1998
  • Ensure the security of the radio control box
  • The above objectives will be measured by both a theoretical and practical assessment
